One of the reasons that channel letter signs have become such a popular type of exterior sign, is because of the design flexibility that they offer. Nearly any font or design can be converted into a professional looking channel letter sign for the front. You have seen them everywhere, from Subway to Safeway. When it comes to retail storefront signage, there are few better choices than the ubiquitous channel letter sign.
Each letter on a channel letter sign (or group of letters in some cases) is individually constructed and illuminated from within. Aluminum, because it does not rust, is typically the material of choice for the back and sides of each letter. The rear panels of the sign are computer-cut and they become the basis for fabricating the rest of the design. Aluminum strips are then bent in shape around the back pieces, forming the sides of the letters. These two pieces are then welded or riveted together. Finally, a colored translucent piece of acrylic, also cut to the letter shape, is then attached to the face of the sign, thus completing fabrication.
Professional & Highly Visible
Channel letter signs have historically been illuminated by neon lights. Today, LED lights are the preferred option. LED lighting offers many advantages when it comes to channel lettering. They are brighter, less expensive, and they last longer. LED bulbs will burn virtually forever when connected to a consistent power source. When a sign is completed and installed on a contrasting wall surface (be it brick, stone, or wood) the result is professional and highly visible.
